BHOPAL: A major fire broke out in the office of divisional commissioner at historical Moti Palace in Gwalior on Thursday morning. Leaping flames triggered panic, but no loss of human life was reported.
Official sources said the fire broke out on the first floor of the office around 10.15 am. Sixteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took two and half hours to put out the raging blaze. Hundreds of files, most related to pending inquiries, computers, laptops and furniture in all rooms, were destroyed. “All records stashed in cupboards and other places were gutted,” a fire official told TOI. The cause of fire is still unknown. Police probe is on and an assessment of damage is being done. Unconfirmed sources put losses at a couple of lakhs.
An employee of Gwalior Municipal Corporation was injured in the incident. He was referred to district hospital. Divisional commissioner K K Khare was away on tour. District collector P Narhari was in charge, sources said.
