Elgin fire officials are investigating a fire that destroyed a detached garage on Sunday night. When firefighters arrived on the 700 block of Parkway Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., they discovered the garage completely engulfed in flames. The Elgin Fire Department put out the fierce fire before it had a chance to spread to surrounding garages and an adjacent house. The garage was completely destroyed, although the nearby structures only sustained minor damage. The adjoining house’s occupants were able to stay in their abode despite minor damage from the fire, and no casualties were recorded. An inquiry has been launched by fire officials to ascertain what caused the tragedy. Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was probably unintentional, and the projected losses are more than $40,000. The EFD Fire inquiry Team is in charge of the current inquiry. In a separate incident, a mobile home on Sandra Lane close to Villa Street caught fire on Wednesday, sending thick clouds of smoke into the air in Elgin. The mobile house was reduced to rubble as flames spread to the roof, scorching a section of the building. The extreme heat and smoke also caused damage to nearby properties. It took some time to find out how many people were hurt or what started the fire. Investigators are still looking into the event as they try to learn more details. It has been reported that visitors were fortunate to escape a major hotel fire in September without losing their lives since the fire alarms did not go off. Early on Friday, June 21, the Ladyhill House on Hill Street in Elgin caught fire. The fire took three hours to contain despite the efforts of about thirty firemen. Subsequently, a guy showed up in court, accused of intentionally setting a fire that might endanger life.
