Fire breaks out at eye hospital in Delhi's Paschim Vihar

A fire broke out at an eye hospital in Delhi's Paschim Vihar area on Tuesday. However, no one was injured in the incident and people were safely evacuated from the building. The fire broke out on the second floor of Eye Mantra Hospital around 12 noon, a Delhi Fire Services official told PTI. Six fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames.  The incident comes days after seven babies died following a massive fire at a private children's hospital in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar. Five of the oxygen cylinders exploded during the deadly blaze, compounding the situation.An investigation by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) found several safety lapses at the Baby Care Centre.In its report, the NCPCR said emergency exits were absent in the building, fire extinguishers were non-functional and there was a lack of operational fire alarms and water sprinkler systems. The findings of the commission were shared with the Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Police Commissioner.Dr Naveen Khichi, the hospital's owner, and an on-duty doctor were arrested following the tragedy.
