VESDA Fire Detection Systems

VESDA is an acronym for Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus. VESDA systems are a type of aspirating smoke detection (ASD) that are designed to detect a fire as early as possible, when it is still in its incipient stages, by continuously sampling the air in the area. In some applications, a standard fire detection system is not going to provide early enough detection to protect high-value assets from damage. In these situations, a VESDA system may be needed.

Early & Fast Response to Fires

VESDA systems can detect the smallest smoke particles that are not visible to the naked eye. They buy the critical time that is needed to respond to an alarm in order to prevent property damage, injuries and business disruptions. A VEDSA detector will be able to detect minute levels of smoke to prevent fires from escalating.

Applications that Benefit from VESDA

There are many applications that may benefit from VESDA detection systems. In areas with challenging environments, irreplaceable assets, or where business continuity is imperative, VESDA may be a good option. VESDA is also a good choice in areas where a lot of time is required for safe evacuation. Some applications include:

  • Hospitals
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Data centers
  • Apartments, hotels, offices, etc.
  • Power generation
  • Correctional facilities
  • Clean rooms
  • Records storage
  • Nuclear facilities
  • Cultural/Heritage centers
  • Marine applications
  • Museums
  • Art galleries
  • Historic facilities

Aspirating Smoke Detection and Fire Suppression

Pairing a VESDA detection system with a fire suppression system can provide optimal fire protection for facilities. An aspirating smoke detection system can detect fires early on so they can be dealt with without the need for agent discharge. Fire suppression systems are able to quickly respond to and extinguish fires before they become larger and more destructive when a fire is detected early.
