Bajaj Responds To Chetak Fire Incident in Aurangabad: ‘No Fire, Only Smoke…’

New Delhi: Bajaj Auto has clarified that there was no fire in the recent incident involving a Chetak electric scooter in Aurangabad. The incident, which took place on December 5 in Chattrapati Sambhaji Nagar, was caused by smoke coming from a plastic part of the scooter. The news of the event spread widely on social media with images showing smoke coming from the scooter, but no one was injured. In an official statement, Bajaj confirmed that once the incident was reported, their dealer quickly moved the scooter to a service center for a full investigation. “Preliminary investigations reveal that while there was no fire or thermal runaway, the event was limited to smoke emission from a plastic component, with the battery and motor remaining intact. The materials used in the battery pack ensured the safety of the vehicle even under such a condition”, Bajaj Auto said. Bajaj emphasized its commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards for its products. The company is thoroughly investigating the cause of this incident. This is the first such case involving the Chetak electric scooter, which has sold over 300,000 units so far. Bajaj also operates over 3,800 service centers and on-road service points across the country. “We urge our customers to exclusively use our authorized service network to maintain the highest standards of safety and quality for their Chetaks.
