A man and his two children died after a massive fire broke out on the top floor of a residential building in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 13 on Tuesday morning. The incident took place around 10am when flames rapidly engulfed the entire top floor of the Shabad Apartment in Sector 13 near MRV School.
They jumped down from their flat in panic but could not be saved. The reason for the fire could also not be immediately ascertained.
The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Yash Yadav, his son, 10, and daughter, 12. Yash Yadav’s wife and one of their relatives managed to escape the fire and survived. They have been sent to the IGI Hospital for medical assistance.
According to a fire official, the call regarding the blaze was reported at 10:01am, after which eight fire tenders were pressed into service. Firefighting operations were currently underway, and authorities were working to bring the situation under control, they said, adding that police, fire department and ambulance were at the spot.
The fire department said the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Officials said further information will be provided at a later stage.
Residents in the area were asked to stay clear of the site to allow emergency services to operate efficiently.
Visuals from the building in Sector 13 area showed flames and thick smoke billowing out.
