A month after a woman officer died in the LIC building in Madurai, the probe has revealed that what looked like a fire accident was actually a murder plot. The Madurai Police on Monday arrested 46-year-old assistant administrative officer D Ram for setting afire senior branch manager Kalyani Nambi on the second floor of the LIC building in December, TOI reported. ,LIC Officer Kalyani Lambi was charred to death inside the office building, which the police initially suspected to be an accidental fire. However, as the investigation continued, it was revealed that Ram was behind her murder. ,Murder Plot To Kill LIC Officer Exposed,,When the fire erupted in the office building, Ram and Kalyani were inside the premises. During the inquiry, Ram told the police that a masked man entered the office and attempted to rob Kalyani’s ornaments and also set fire to the office, as per the TOI report. ,However, as the investigation further moved on, he gave contradictory statements, which led to suspicion. The police then checked Ram’s cabin, where they found a few water bottles with petrol filled in it. Moreover, a tube was also used to suck petrol from his bike, which was found during the investigation. ,Further, Kalyani’s son also told police that his mother called him that night and asked him to inform the police. Check IMD Forecast & Warning ,Why Ram Plotted Murder of LIC Officer Kalyani?,,According to the TOI report, a few insurance agents submitted their complaints to Kalyani, stressing that Ram was sitting on more than 40 death claims for a long period. ,Following this, Kalyani asked him about it and told him that she would inform her superiors. This further prompted Ram to plot her murder and also destroy the pending files in the office by setting them all on fire. ,On December 17, Ram turned off the main electricity supply to the building and also mailed the authorities, saying there was something wrong with the supply. He then locked the main door, which was accessible from the lobby., ,As the lights went off, Kalyani saw that someone was trying to lock the door. She got suspicious and cried for help. Ram then allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire. ,Further, to save himself and portray it as an accident, Ram also set fire to his own cabin, and sustained burn injuries, the police said, according to a TOI report. ,As police interrogated him, Ram confessed to the murder.
