A major disaster was averted after officials from the Pune Fire Brigade controlled a blaze that started in the cabin of a fuel tanker carrying 15,000 litres of diesel and 5,000 litres of petrol amid busy traffic at Shewalwadi Chowk on the Pune-Solapur Road in Hadapsar Monday morning.

Officials at the control room of the Pune Fire Brigade said that around 9.20 am, they received a call informing that a fuel tanker had caught fire on the Pune-Solapur stretch. Immediately, fire tenders from Hadapsar, Kalepadal, BT Kawade Road, and Kharadi fire stations were pressed into action along with water tankers. The first fire tender reached the location in five minutes after the call was placed, an official said.
