Kathua: A massive fire broke out inside a house in Shivanagar of the Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, leaving six people dead and three injured. Nine people were sleeping at the time of the incident, out of which six died of suffocation and three became unconscious. The fire occurred due to a short circuit. According to the sources, a neighbour also fainted due to the smoke. The injured individuals have been admitted to the HMC Hospital in Kathua. Another fire broke out in the hilly belt of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, prompting locals and the administration to launch an operation to control the raging blaze on December 16. The fire erupted in the forests located in the Uchhad area of Mendhar sub-division, officials said, as per PTI. It quickly spread across large swathes of the forest area, they added. The local administration, along with officials from the Forest Department, Wildlife Department and residents, is making efforts to bring the fire under control, they said. Further details awaited.
