Kolkata Fire Today: A massive fire broke out at a hotel in the congested Mechuapatti area of Barabazar in central Kolkata on Monday evening, leaving two people seriously injured, police said, as per a PTI report. The fire, spotted around 8:30 PM, triggered a large-scale firefighting operation, with 10 fire tenders dispatched to the scene to control the blaze, officials said. According to a senior police official, till now, efforts are on to control the fire. Local news channels reported that the individual who jumped from the building later died, although police have not yet confirmed this. The blaze caused panic among locals and hotel guests, with several seen attempting to escape through windows and ledges. Firefighters faced challenges accessing the site due to the narrow lanes of Barabazar, one of Kolkata’s most crowded commercial zones. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, officials suspect a short circuit. Rescue operations were ongoing at the time of reporting, with the area cordoned off and traffic diverted.
