A massive fire engulfed a rooftop in the Upper East Side area of Manhattan, New York, Friday morning. Videos going viral online showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Firefighters are battling the blaze atop the seven-story apartment building, officials said Friday. The fire, reported shortly after 10 am on East 95th Street between Second and First avenues, drew more than 100 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene. Footage shared on the Citizen app captured bright flames erupting from the rooftop as thick black smoke spread across the skyline. No injuries have been reported so far. The cause remains under investigation. The city’s Office of Emergency Management has urged people to steer clear of the area and advised sensitive residents to keep their windows shut.
