New Delhi: A massive fire broke out late on Friday night in a cluster of huts near Rithala Metro Station in Delhi’s Rohini area, leaving several shanties gutted and a child injured. Thick plumes of smoke rose into the sky as frightened residents rushed to save their belongings and move to safety. According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call regarding the blaze was received around 10.56 pm, following which multiple fire tenders were dispatched. “We received information that a fire broke out in the huts of Bengali Basti, located between Rithala Metro Station and the Delhi Jal Board. Fire tenders were sent to the spot… A total of 29 fire tenders are on the spot, and the fire is now under control. A kid was reportedly injured, and he has been sent to the hospital via ambulance. There is no information about any further casualties,” said Fire Officer SK Dua. Officials initially rushed 15 fire tenders, but as the flames spread rapidly, reportedly intensified by several LPG cylinder explosions, more units were deployed to bring the situation under control. Police sources confirmed that the explosions triggered panic among residents, forcing many to flee their homes in the dead of night. What Led To The Fire? Preliminary reports suggest the fire started in one of the huts and quickly spread due to closely packed structures and several LPG cylinder explosions. The blasts intensified the flames, engulfing multiple shanties within minutes and causing panic among residents as they rushed to safety. “Our teams are working to douse the flames. We have asked the police to keep the onlookers away,” a DFS official said, adding that the area has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure. The fire, which engulfed a large portion of the settlement, has since been brought under control after hours of firefighting. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, and further investigation is underway. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Delhi and around the world.
