A video showing passengers coughing, suffocating, and covering their faces as thick smoke filled a Mumbai Metro coach has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on Tuesday at Devipada Metro Station in the Borivali area. According to reports, a private bus caught fire on the Western Express Highway, right below the metro station. As the metro halted at Devipada station, the smoke from the blaze rose and entered the coach, causing panic among passengers and making it difficult to breathe. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched efforts to douse the flames. However, no injuries have been reported so far. However, as the bus parked beneath the metro station caught fire, thick black smoke billowed upward. At that moment, a metro train halted at the station, and as its doors opened, the smoke entered the coaches. Moreover, a 50-second video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user Yogesh Namjoshi shows a metro coach engulfed in thick smoke, with passengers coughing and struggling to breathe. Taking to X, Mumbai Metro said,”We regret the inconvenience caused to our valued passengers.” “Due to the station’s open design, smoke briefly reached the platform and entered one coach when doors opened. The situation was promptly managed at the next station. There was no fire or hazard inside the train. Metro services continued safely and uninterrupted. We thank commuters for their patience and understanding,” it added. Read more
