A fire incident at a warehouse facility used by Supertails in Bengaluru has resulted in the loss of the company’s entire inventory stored at that location. The incident affected one of the startup’s leased warehouses within a larger storage complex. The event temporarily disrupted supply operations and forced the company to reassess its logistics network.
Fire Originated in Nearby Storage Facility
According to the company’s update, the fire reportedly began in a perfume storage warehouse located within the same premises and later spread to adjacent units, including the facility storing Supertails’ inventory. While the structure sustained extensive damage, all employees present at the site were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
Inventory Loss Forces Temporary Pause in Sales
The destruction of stored products forced the company to temporarily pause its promotional event known as the “WTF Sale,” which had just recorded its highest single-day revenue in the firm’s five-year journey. Due to uncertainty around order fulfilment and stock availability, the company decided to halt the sale until inventory levels can be restored.
Customer Impact Remains Limited
Despite the operational setback, the company reported that less than one percent of total customer orders were affected by the incident. The startup clarified that most orders were either fulfilled from other inventory sources or rescheduled as the company reorganised its supply chain and distribution process
Rapid Recovery Measures Initiated
Within approximately 72 hours of the incident, the company secured another primary warehouse facility in Bengaluru and resumed operational activities from the new location. The focus now is on rebuilding inventory levels, stabilising supply lines, and preparing to restart paused promotional campaigns in the coming weeks.
Funding Momentum Continues Despite Setback
The incident comes shortly after Supertails secured around $30 million in funding from investors including Venturi Partners and Nippon India Alternative Investments. The capital is intended to expand the company’s veterinary services, strengthen its pet care ecosystem, and extend delivery networks across major urban markets in India.
Conclusion: A Reminder of Warehouse Fire Risks
The warehouse fire affecting Supertails highlights how a single incident within shared industrial premises can disrupt supply chains and inventory management for fast-growing startups. While the company has moved quickly to restore operations, the event underscores the importance of strong fire safety systems, proper storage planning, and risk mitigation strategies in logistics facilities where multiple businesses operate in close proximity.
