A fire broke out at the Shahberi furniture market in Greater Noida West on Friday night, creating panic among shopkeepers and nearby residents. According to officials, the incident was reported around 10:20 PM in the Bisrakh police station area. Thick smoke rising from the market could be seen from several nearby residential locations.
Furniture Shops Suffer Heavy Damage
Authorities said the fire initially started in one furniture shop before spreading to several nearby stores. Due to the presence of highly combustible materials such as wood, foam, plywood, and polish chemicals, the flames moved quickly through the market area. Initial reports suggest that around seven to eight shops were damaged in the incident.
Fire Teams Rush to Control the Situation
Following the emergency alert, nearly ten fire tenders were deployed to control the fire. Firefighters worked through the night to prevent the flames from reaching nearby establishments and residential pockets. Police officials also cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and manage traffic movement around the market.
No Casualties Reported
Officials confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. Shopkeepers and workers managed to evacuate the area after the first signs of fire were noticed. Authorities stated that the exact reason behind the incident will be determined after a detailed investigation once the site is fully secured.
Questions Raised Over Fire Safety Preparedness
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about fire safety arrangements in densely packed commercial markets. Reports indicate that furniture markets storing flammable materials remain highly vulnerable if proper firefighting systems, extinguishers, and emergency exits are not maintained regularly.
