New Friends Colony House Fire

A major fire broke out at a residential building in South Delhi’s New Friends Colony on Sunday afternoon, triggering a large-scale rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). Thick smoke rapidly engulfed the building, leaving several occupants trapped on the upper floors and prompting an urgent response from emergency teams. According to officials, a distress call was received at around 3:40 PM, following which multiple fire tenders were rushed to the scene.

Brave Rescue Saves Eight Residents

Firefighters and police personnel worked together to evacuate residents stranded inside the smoke-filled structure. Eight people, including four children, were successfully rescued using ladders and alternative access routes after the main staircase became unusable due to dense smoke. Authorities confirmed that all rescued occupants escaped without serious injuries.

AC Malfunction Suspected as Cause

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire may have originated from a malfunctioning split air-conditioner’s indoor unit on the first floor. Officials stated that the burning unit reportedly fell onto a bed, causing flames to spread quickly through the room and fill the building with smoke. Investigators are continuing to examine the exact sequence of events.

Tragic Loss of Two Family Pets

While all human occupants were brought to safety, two pet dogs trapped inside the building could not be saved. Rescue personnel administered emergency first aid and CPR after the animals were found unconscious from smoke inhalation. One dog died at the scene, while the other succumbed during treatment at a veterinary facility. The incident added a heartbreaking dimension to an otherwise successful rescue effort.

Swift Action Prevents a Larger Disaster

Fire officials managed to bring the blaze under control within a short period, preventing it from spreading further through the residential structure. Authorities also clarified that social media reports claiming a child’s death were incorrect and confirmed that no human fatalities occurred in the incident.

Conclusion: A Timely Reminder on Home Fire Safety

The New Friends Colony fire highlights how quickly a household appliance malfunction can escalate into a life-threatening emergency. While the prompt response of firefighters and police saved eight lives, the loss of two pets serves as a painful reminder of the importance of regular electrical inspections, AC maintenance, smoke detection systems, and emergency evacuation planning. Vigilance and preparedness remain the first line of defense against residential fire tragedies.
