Despite the Delhi High Court’s directive nearly 10 months ago for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to explore options to provide essential fire safety measures in 101 schools with narrow access roads, the situation has seen no improvement. A recent status report submitted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) before the Delhi High Court bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru, revealed that there are still 101 schools that cannot obtain their necessary no-objection certificates due to narrow approach roads. “In the status report, it has also been stated that approach roads to 101 (One hundred one) schools are narrow and therefore, NOC cannot be issued by DES qua these schools. MCD is directed to explore the option of either widening the approach road or providing elaborate fire safety measures within the schools itself”, the High Court had said in its order passed on March 6, 2024. The latest status report filed by the civic agency has remained silent on what actions have been taken by them pursuant to the directions passed by the High Court in its earlier order The status report filed by the MCD however stated that out of the total 1184 schools, the fire NOC has been issued to 743 schools in the national capital. The report also stated that in the 441 remaining schools an undertaking has been given by HoS that all possible initial requirement are fulfilled and available in school for fire safety like sand bucket, first aid kit, awareness among students, entry/exit signs and signs for danger/restricted areas. The High Court has now listed the matter for further hearing in the case in March. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Delhi and around the world.
