A Mumbai Fire Brigade official said preliminary evidence suggests that the fire at the chawl in the Kandivali (East) area originated from an electric wire or installation.

Seven people sustained serious burn injuries after a fire broke out at a densely populated residential chawl in the Kandivali (East) area of Mumbai Wednesday.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s Disaster Management Cell, the blaze broke out around 9.05 am in a shop located on the ground floor of the ground-plus-one-storied structure.
