Preliminary inquiry revealed that all five, originally from Bihar’s Nalanda, had been living in tin sheds erected on the plot, police said. They collected scrap cardboards and cartons from nearby markets.
Two workers were killed and three others injured after a fire broke out on a vacant plot, which was being used as a makeshift unit for storage of scrap, in Northwest Delhi’s Pitampura village on Tuesday, police said.
According to the police, a PCR call regarding the fire was received at Rani Bagh police station around 1:25 am. The plot had scrap cardboard and cartons stored under tin sheds. Police officers rushed to the spot. Six fire tenders and over 50 firefighters were also pressed into service.
