illegal scrap yard fire

A fire broke out early Monday morning at an open scrap yard in Kankrola village near the IMT Manesar industrial area in Gurugram. Fire officials received the alert around 6:50 am and quickly dispatched fire tenders to the location. Multiple fire teams worked for several hours to control the situation and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby area.

Illegal Waste Dumping Under Investigation

Initial findings revealed that the scrap yard was operating illegally on a private plot. Large quantities of industrial waste had reportedly been dumped at the site for years without proper authorization. Authorities believe the presence of plastic, rubber, metal scrap, and other flammable materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Civic Body Demands FIR Against Plot Owner

Following the incident, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) recommended registering an FIR against the private landowner who allowed the plot to become an illegal dumping ground. Officials stated that strict legal action is necessary to prevent similar safety hazards in industrial areas.

Industries May Face Heavy Financial Penalties

Authorities have also asked the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and HSIIDC to identify the industries responsible for dumping waste at the site. If found responsible, these companies may face penalties ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh and could even lose their consent-to-operate licenses.

Rising Concern Over Industrial Fire Risks

Experts say scrap yards storing plastic, rubber, and industrial waste can become high-risk zones if safety rules are ignored. Poor waste management, lack of monitoring, and illegal storage often increase the chances of fires in industrial clusters. The incident has raised fresh concerns about environmental safety and regulatory enforcement in such areas.

Conclusion: A Warning for Industrial Safety Compliance

The scrap yard fire has once again highlighted the dangers of illegal waste dumping and poor safety oversight. While quick response by fire teams prevented injuries, the incident serves as a reminder that strict monitoring and responsible industrial practices are essential. Without stronger enforcement and proper waste management, similar incidents could continue to threaten nearby communities and industries.
