This is the second fire incident reported in two weeks due to damage to the PNG pipeline during road repairs in Mumbai.
Three people sustained burns in a fire incident reported at the Sher-e-Punjab Society in Mumbai’s Andheri (East) around 2 am on Sunday. The blaze broke out following a leak from a piped natural gas (PNG) line, as a result of which vehicles passing on the road caught fire.
Ravindra Ambulgekar, Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade, said the pipeline was damaged while road digging was underway. “The road was being dug by a JCB and during this process, the PNG pipeline passing beneath the surface was damaged, resulting in vehicles travelling on the road above catching fire. We extinguished the blaze and the issue was reported to the civic authorities as well as the Mumbai Police for further investigation,” Ambulgekar told The Indian Express.
