A small fire broke out near the security gate and checking room at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan on Monday afternoon, shortly after an inaugural ceremony of state legislative committees attended by senior leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which was doused within minutes, officials said.
According to preliminary reports, the fire broke out at 3 pm and was extinguished at 3.06 pm. “The fire seems to have started due to a short circuit in the scanning machine installed at the security check cabin of Vidhan Bhavan’s entrance gate…The fire brigade teams have also reached. All the staff are safe and evacuated,” said Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar who arrived at the spot soon after.
