While 70 acres of crop burned down in Muktsar’s Sotha and Chak Duhewala villages, 400 acres were gutted in Gurdaspur’s Kalanaur. In many places, farmers accused the fire brigade of delayed response.
Multiple fire incidents have been reported across villages in Punjab in recent days, causing extensive damage to wheat crops. A video that went viral after around 20 acres of wheat crop were destroyed in a blaze last week in Moga district’s Mari Mustafa village shows farmer Kuldeep Singh being consoled by his daughter. Kuldeep lost two acres of crop in the fire.
Besides Kuldeep, local resident Hardyal Singh lost around 3 acres of his crop in the fire, while Amarjeet Singh lost 5 acres, and Baljinder Singh lost 10 acres. Seeing the farmers’ plight, many on social media have come forward to help them.
