The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday announced that all hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars will be inspected by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) authorities as part of a special fire safety drive that will be held between December 22 and 28. The BMC’s announcement came two days after a devastating fire that was reported at a Goa nightclub, which claimed 25 lives.
In a statement on Tuesday, the BMC authorities said that action will be taken against establishment owners violating safety norms under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Safety Act. The BMC’s statement also stated that last year a similar drive was undertaken by the authorities as per which as many as 731 establishments were inspected and 12 of them were penalised.
